When you live on an island in the South-Pacific, you

might decide that you need a hat some day.

How to choose the right hat:

1. The hat should offer protection from the murderous sun.
2. The hat should not loose its form in the rain.
3. The hat should not fly away in the wind.
4. The colours should blend in with the natural surroundings.

This is how I chose my hat and I was happy as long as I stayed in the bush. But one day I left and took a boat to a city accross the sea. The citypeople looked at me, started to scratch their heads and didn't stop asking me:

What do you try to express with this hat?
What do you want to say about yourself?
What was the message?
Well, I had never thought about these questions.

What do you wear on your head when you go hiking in the high mountains?

The sunlight becomes incredible stong and the invisible ultra-violet radiation scorch your skin and make the mind dizzy. That can become a real headache. Nausea and loss of sense and judgment can bring you into real trouble in an extreme environment.

� I felt that the protection that was offered by my regular cap was definitely inadequate. So I reinforced it by wrapping a piece of cloth around my head the way some locals do. I also stopped shaving and a beard started to grow in my face offering maximum protection.

Returning to lower where the temperature was warmer turned my breard into a liability so I made a beeline for the next barber's shop.
Most people said taking off the beard had changed me somehow.

I couln't agree less: I felt just the same person.

I agree: After my visit to the barber I looked perhaps a nicer person, but was I as well?

Here is a cap which i can be worn in casual situations
and has also the advantage of casting a protective shadow
on the wearer's nose.
