once i was living in the bush of tasmania. some day i decided that i need a hat. this is how i chose my hat: 1. it should protect me from the sun. 2. it should not lose its form in the rain. 3. it should not be blown off my head in the wind. 4. its colours should blend in with the surroundings. i was very happy with my hat as long as i stayed in the bush. but one day i left the bush and went to the cities. the people in the cities looked at me and started to ask: what do you want to express by wearing this hat? in the bush, this question was never ever asked of me. |

some other time i was hiking in the high mountains of the himalaya the invisible ultra-violet radiaion becomes quite strong at certain altitudes. i felt that the protection that was offered by my cap was inadequate. so i wrapped a head piece of cloth around my head the way some locals do. i also allowed a thick beard to grow in my face acting as a sun screen for skin protection. after i climbed down to lower altitudes, i found that the climate turned hotter. it became difficult to bear the heat underneath my beard. so i cut it off. people said taking off the beard had changed me a lot. i didn't agree: i felt just the same person. |
